Luke Byron

October 11, 2010
12:15 PM
6 lbs. 14 oz. 18 inches

FINALLY, i am getting around to posting the (birth) story of our new little guy!
today marks his 2 week birthday exactly! he now weighs 7 lbs. 4 oz. and is 20 inches long.
he is a formula baby so he is going to grow like a weed!

as most of you know (from previous blog posts) i was scheduled to get induced ...
monday, october 11th at 6:30 AM.
jordan and i got to mt. timpanogos hospital at about 6:45 AM and immediately put into
a labor and delivery room. we met my cute nurse and i quickly got cozy with all of the monitors
attached to my body and my iv (one of the worst's for me! i hate the iv) jabbed into my wrist.
i was given pitocin at exactly 7:15 AM.
within an hour i started to feel contractions ... not extreme, but tolerable.
after feeling a few stronger ones, i got an epidural around 9ish ... maybe a little before.
i moved along pretty fast and my nurse thought i would have the baby around 10 AM!
but the epidural slowed things down just a little.
after i was given my epidural, i sat up and within 5 minutes i felt really lightheaded.
i was staring at jordan as he was writing down our guesses on what time the baby would be born,
when he asked me what my guess was, i couldn't reply! i suddenly started seeing spots ...
my eyes rolled back in my head and my tongue started to swell ... i was out!
the next thing i remember is waking up to 4 nurses standing over me telling me to sniff ...
my nurse told me i was "meetin' jesus!" and i was "with the angels."
i am SO grateful for modern medicine! and a husband who was there to hold my hand.
luckily, my mom came walking into the room right after this happened and only saw the oxygen strapped onto my face.

i felt back to "normal" within minutes and enjoyed just sitting, relaxed visiting with jord and mom.
around 11 i started to feel pretty strong contractions but only on the right side of my body.
my left side was still numb. so i decided to press the epidural button to see if it would help.
it didn't. i waited 30 minutes before pushing the button again.
it still didn't work.
i told my nurse and the anesthesiologist came to the rescue when he found that the epidural tube in my back had moved into a blood vessel ... or something like that. (and this is probably what caused my passing out earlier ...)
so i had to get an entirely new epidural.
as i laid down to go through the process again, i thought i could feel the baby's head (down yonder)
so i told my nurse she might want to "check me." she did and i was a 5 1/2.
after i got this second epidural my nurse checked me again ... just to be safe.
she was inspired because as soon as she checked, she said
"we're ready to have a baby!"
what? ... sa-weet!
it was almost noon while we waited for the doc to come.
i started pushing at 12:00 and by 12:15, after 5 hours of labor, baby luke had arrived!

we are SO grateful he is here and couldn't be more grateful to our Heavenly Father for
entrusting us with our second baby boy
