we were hoping to maybe go home this day. but the morning wasn't looking to promising.
luke was still on oxygen and had been all night. he wasn't eating much but enough to get him by ... thank heavens!
they almost wanted to put in an IV. i did NOT want him to have to get one of those. i hate 'em! that thing jabbed into a vein on your wrist or hand is the worst thing about having a baby and sitting in labor. but remember how small my veins are?
anyway ... the pediatrician came to visit and told me luke was looking okay. they were watching for 2 things.
1. to see how much oxygen he would need throughout the day and if he could go at all without it. they usually like to see them OFF of oxygen for 6-12 hours before sending them home. so as soon as he said that i knew we were there for another night!
and
2. have his oxygen level consistent from 88 and above.
they also recorded how much he was eating and how often. they weighed every single diaper i changed without the wipes in them. took his temperature and checked his blood pressure every so often. gave him a shot of some steroid (the first day) to expand his lungs. monitored his heart rate. and a respiratory therapist came in every 4 hours to suction him out and give him a breathing treatment.
by mid afternoon i think the both of us (luke and i) were used to all of these things.
and after hearing the news that we would be there at least another night and maybe more,
it turned out to be a pretty good day.
on top of talking to my mom every couple of hours and discussing whether she should hop a flight and come out here ...
jord brought me a protein shake, yogurt, and some granola bites for breakfast before heading to midway to help his dad build a fence and then bring easton home.
my cute sis brought me a yummy tostada from cafe rio for lunch and hung out for a few hours to love on baby luke and watch pearl harbor with me to pass some time.
and then my lovely friend ashley brought me (and jord) dinner from kneaders with some divine eclairs to top it off for dessert!
did i mention how amazing my family and friends are?
luke's oxygen levels were looking so good by 2:00 that we turned the oxygen off at 3:00 and he pretty much never had it on after that! i.n.c.r.e.d.i.b.l.e. i know it was all of your prayers and fasting of my family (on sunday) that worked in advance!
by 7:00 jord and east were in the room to spend some time with me and baby brother. it was so good to have them there. east was excited to see buke and play with his toys and books. oh, and to see the fake fish tank on the "nightstand" and nemo who was stickered on the walls.
... like i said ... such a good day!
baby luke's crib
i tried to make it a little more "homey" and comfortable with blankets from home and of course, his sleep sheep!
so happy!
